Saquon Barkley is the top running back on the free agent market. These five teams would be the best fit for him in 2023.

The NFL’s free-agent market hasn’t been kind to running backs in recent years and 2023 will be a big test for the class. A loaded crop of talented backs is set to hit the market, with the best of them being a potential game-changer in Saquon Barkley.

2022 was a renaissance year for Barkley, who made the Pro Bowl after rushing for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 57 receptions for another 338 yards. Barkley was the lifeblood of the Giants’ offense and is looking to cash in on a big payday on the free-agent market.

Even though running back salaries tend to be depressed due to the wear and tear the position imposes on players, Barkley is still in his prime and poised to receive a good deal. Let’s take a look at five of the best fits for Barkley on the open market.

Top Free Agent Fits For Saquon Barkley – Atlanta Falcons

Teams that like to run first will be lining up for Barkley and the Falcons figure to be at the top of the list. Arthur Smith turned Atlanta into a power-rushing machine in 2022, ranking third in the league in rushing yards per game despite having a platoon of Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Allgeier at running back.

Adding a proven star like Barkley would allow Smith to open up his playbook even more and expand the scope of Atlanta’s strong rushing game. Barkley would also be a tremendous asset for the Falcons if they opt to develop Desmond Ridder as their starter since a strong running game is key to helping a young quarterback grow.

The Falcons also have a ton of salary cap room so they can afford to give Barkley a big contract and still upgrade the rest of their roster. Don’t be shocked if Atlanta puts a huge bid in for Barkley this off-season.
