NFL rumors: 4 Derrick Henry trade partners the Titans could deal with
Derrick Henry is on the trade block according to NFL rumors out of the Combine, but which landing spots would make sense for the Titans to trade with?
There are already some big-name trade candidates being floated around with the NFL rumors swirling out of the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. DeAndre Hopkins is on the block, so is Jalen Ramsey, and we all know about the possibilities of Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson. But now we can also add Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry to the mix.
NFL insider Michael Silver mentioned that Henry was discussed in trade talks at the Combine along with Hopkins and Ramsey, which seemingly gives more validity to the thought that Henry could be on the block. What’s more, the Titans appear to be in the midst of a teardown of the roster with guys like Taylor Lewan, Bud Dupree and Robert Woods having been cut.
Henry, however, is a fascinating trade chip. He’s on the final year of a four-year, $50 million contract signed before the 2020 season and, despite being 28 years old, has been wildly productive with at least 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns in each of the three seasons within the last four that he’s played at least 15 games, including a monster 2,027-yard, 17-touchdown campaign in 2020.
Because the Titans might be eager to get rid of him and with him being a free agent in 2024, though, the trade price could be a mid-round pick to get a deal done. Which teams should be trying to make that trade right away? Here’s a look at four potential partners that would be fascinating landing spots for Derrick Henry.

4. The Buffalo Bills trading for Derrick Henry would be a power move
It’s been several years at this point that we’ve been looking to try and find a stable running back to give the Bills. Devin Singletary, who is set to hit free agency this offseason, looked the part at times but never fully materialized in that role. Zack Moss wasn’t the guy, which is why he got traded. And while James Cook flashed as a rookie, there are still some questions there about his every-down capabilities.
Now consider the possibility of Derrick Henry and Josh Allen in the same backfield. What group of linebackers and defensive backs wants to see that much beef coming at them out of an RPO package? That seems like the absolute worst-case scenario for an opposing defense to go up against.
The Bills are not in a particularly advantageous spot with the salary cap this offseason but, at the same time, they still should be able to move some things around to make a move like this work.
In the loss to Cincinnati in the AFC Playoffs, it was abundantly clear that the Bills need to find another dimension to their offense if they’re going to take the next step, namely getting to and winning a Super Bowl, with Allen at the helm. Henry pairing with Cook as a thunder and lightning type of duo would be something special that could very well be exactly what the team needs.
