The New York Giants figure to be very active this offseason. These five free agents should be targets for GM Joe Schoen over the next few weeks.

Few expected the New York Giants to be relevant in 2022, let alone a playoff team. Excellent coaching from Brian Daboll allowed New York to reach the Divisional Round despite a roster stripped to the bones in order to clean up Dave Gettleman’s salary cap mess, putting the Giants ahead of schedule in their rebuild.

While the Daniel Jones situation has taken up some key resources, the Giants do have a lot of salary cap space to work on improving their roster. Let’s take a look at five free agents that GM Joe Schoen should pursue in order to improve New York’s talent base this offseason.

5. Top Free Agent Targets For The Giants – C Connor McGovern

One of the key decisions that Schoen will have to make this offseason is at center. Jon Feliciano, who did a solid job as the starter last year, is set to become a free agent this offseason.

While finding a way to retain Feliciano would maintain continuity, he isn’t really a long-term solution for the Giants. One plausible upgrade would be Connor McGovern, who was a good starter for the New York Jets over the past three years and is set to hit the market.

The 29-year-old McGovern would give New York competent play at the position and buy Schoen time to draft a replacement in the later rounds for the coaching staff to develop. Schoen saw the value of a good center in Buffalo when the Bills gave Mitch Morse a huge contract a few years ago so McGovern could be the Giants’ version of stability at center.
