Team USA and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber will be wearing some epic cleats for the team’s World Baseball Classic Game vs. Great Britain.
The last time the World Baseball Classic took place was in 2017, which is when Team USA won its first title. Six years later, the tournament makes its return, officially beginning on March 8. As for the United States and the rest of Pool C, they officially began their WBC journey on Saturday, March 11 facing off against Great Britain.
Ahead of the game, the cleats for Team USA designated hitter and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber were revealed.
The Nike cleats, customized by Stadium Custom Kicks, featured the United States flag, beer, apple pie, hot dogs, and tire treads.
Kyle Schwarber’s patriotic World Baseball Classic cleats revealed
Schwarber will be in the United States’ opening game lineup against Great Britain on Saturday night. Specifically, he will be batting fifth in the lineup, behind Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado in that order. Batting behind Schwarber are Trea Turner, Kyle Tucker, J.T. Realmuto, and Jeff McNeil.
Adam Wainwright will start on the mound for the United States, while Vance Worley will get the start for Great Britain.
The game will be airing on FOX.
Last season, Schwarber led the National League with 46 home runs, earned his second All-Star Game nomination, and won his first ever Silver Slugger award. In 155 regular-season games, Schwarber recorded a .218 batting average, a .323 on-base percentage, a .504 slugging percentage, 94 RBI, 100 runs scored, and 126 hits.
In 17 postseason games, Schwarber slashed .218/.392/.545, while recording six home runs, 10 RBI, 12 hits, and 13 runs.
Schwarber and Team USA will look to defend their World Baseball Classic championship, and it all begins by defeating Great Britain.
