NFL Rumors: Chiefs Thornhill replacement, Odell Beckham Jr. clarifies demands, Titans cutting All-Pro
NFL Rumors: Odell Beckham Jr. refutes wild $20 million asking price
The Odell Beckham Jr. free agency has been strange since November of the 2022 season when it appeared like he might sign with a contender to provide an offensive boost ahead of and into the playoffs. Instead, he remained unsigned with reports that he would be unable to return from his ACL injury in time. But the market is heating up again.
After the wide receiver’s workout in front of many NFL teams and with clubs like the Cowboys, Jets, Chiefs and several others interested in Beckham, it was reported that OBJ was looking for $20 million per year on a new contract and wanted a multi-year deal. It was also mentioned strangely by some that $4 million in AAV could be in play.
Beckham himself seemed to clear up those reports on Saturday as he took to Twitter, refuting the $20 million figure and the $4 million figure as well.
That $20 million number always sounded absurd, even given Beckham’s bonafides. Given his age and injury history, a contract that would land him something in the middle of the $4-$20 million range always made more sense just looking at the situation.
OBJ all but confirmed that being the case with his tweet on Saturday. Now we’ll have to see if the Cowboys, Chiefs, Jets or a dark horse are willing to meet that number and emerge as the winner of the Odell Beckham Jr. sweepstakes this offseason.
