There has been much speculation about Sergio Busquets joining Inter Miami, but another MLS team, Toronto FC, is also interested in signing him.

The Barcelona midfielder, now 34, retired from the Spanish national team after their round of 16 defeat to Morocco in the World Cup last year. His contract with Barca expires this summer and he is keeping his options open.

Mundo Deportivo has reported that Busquets has “three paths: continue at Barcelona, with a renewal offer already on the table, go to the United States or accept one of the proposals from Saudi Arabia.”

A move to another top team in Europe has been ruled out as “he would not sign for any possible rival of Barcelona.”

Is it time for Busquets to join MLS?

“In the MLS he has several suitors, Toronto among others, but the option that really attracts him is Inter Miami,” the Spanish website added.

The Herons have been linked with Busquets for a while now, with the club that David Beckham co-owns keen to add world-class players to their roster.

The club have also been linked with Busquets’ former teammate at Barca, Lionel Messi. Signing Busquets would help them with their plan to sign the Argentine.

If Busquets is to go to MLS it appears his heart is set on Miami, which makes Toronto’s bid to sign him very ambitious.

What about a move to Saudi Arabia?

Mundo Deportivo went on to say that Al-Nassr, who Cristiano Ronaldo plays for, “offered him 36 million net for two seasons.

“He could also play for Al-Hilal, who also wants to sign Leo Messi, or for Vicente Moreno’s Al-Shabab,” the publication reported.

Moreno is a former La Liga coach and the team also has Ever Banega, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Santi Mina in their ranks.

The finances of Saudi Arabia would be hard for any team to compete with. With Ronaldo now competing in the league, many top players will follow him which would make Saudi Arabia a rival to MLS.

Should Busquets stay with Barca?

Busquets is still a key part of the Barcelona team, he has played in 21 of their 25 league games this season. They are top of La Liga and could go 12 points clear of Real Madrid if they beat them Sunday.

He has won everything at the club; eight La Liga titles and the Champions League three times. With Spain, he has won the World Cup and the European Championship, so he does not have anything left to prove.

If he feels that he can still play at the highest level then he should stay with Barca. However, he may want to go out at the top by winning the league again this season. He would end his time with the club on a high and then be able to finish his career in MLS or Saudi Arabia. Busquets would then be able to perform in one of these leagues whilst he is still a very good player as he is not getting any younger.
