Jaxon Smith-Njigba wasn’t the WR NFL scouts drooled over at Ohio State pro day

Jaxon Smith-Njigba worked out for NFL teams at Ohio State’s pro day, but there was another wide receiver that scouts were enamored with.

The 2023 NFL Draft is over a month away, and teams are beginning to set their focus on the prospects they will be targeting throughout the three-day event from April 27 to 29. On March 22, Ohio State hosted its pro day, with the headliner being quarterback C.J. Stroud. For those teams in need of a wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a consensus first-round prospect in the NFL Draft.

But, there was another wide receiver who scouts came away impressed with, and that was Marvin Harrison Jr., son of the Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and legendary Indianapolis Colts player. The problem is, he’s not draft-eligible until next year, as he just finished his sophomore season.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid shared a text he received from an NFL scout watching Harrison play, and they described watching him perform at the Pro Day “like window shopping at a Lamborghini dealership for the model that doesn’t come out until next year.”

Albert Breer of TheMMQB also shared what he heard from league coaches and personnel who watched Harrison. The reactions stemmed from “impressive” to “lol.”

This past season, Smith-Njigba missed time due to a hamstring injury, limiting him to just three games. While he was absent, Harrison shined for the Buckeyes throughout this past season, showing off his incredible rapport with Stroud.

Harrison played in 13 games this season, seven of which he recorded over 100 receiving yards. In Ohio State’s final game of the season, he caught five passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s Peach Bowl loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Overall, Harrison recorded 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Let’s just say that NFL teams are going to be paying close attention to Harrison throughout his junior season, as he could very well be the top wide receiver prospect in the entire 2024 draft class.
