Details on Chad Pinder signing with Nationals, Jeurys Familia signing with A’s

Free-agent utilityman Chad Pinder and the Washington Nationals are in agreement on a minor-league contract, according to a source familiar with the deal. Pinder will report to Triple-A Rochester.

Pinder, 30, was recently released by the Cincinnati Reds and quickly found a new spot with the Nationals.

He’s coming off a down season with the A’s, hitting a mere .235/.263/.385 with 12 home runs, and mightily struggled this spring with a .103/.167/.154 slash line in 42 plate appearances.

Free-agent reliever Jeurys Familia and the Oakland A’s agreed to a major-league contract, according to sources familiar with the deal. Familia was surprisingly released by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who thrived this spring (1.17 ERA in nine appearances) and seemed like a lock to make the Opening Day roster after settling for a minor-league deal this spring.
