As we prepare for the start of the 2023 MLB season, five huge pitching milestones that could be reached by the end of the season.

Coming off his American League Cy Young win in 2022, Justin Verlander is looking to follow that up with another potential milestone season with the New York Mets. He is only six wins away from surpassing 250 career wins.

There are plenty more MLB veteran pitchers who are looking to hit some milestones in 2023 as well.

Most of these milestones are expected to be achieved. Verlander will likely get his six wins. Kenley Jenson will more than likely record nine saves to surpass 400 career saves and Craig Kimbrel will get his six saves to pass 400 saves.

In addition to that, both St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw should get their few wins to accumulate over 200 career wins as well.

The toughest milestone out of the bunch will be for Kansas City Royals pitcher Zack Greinke to record the 118 strikeouts needed to reach 3,000 career strikeouts. It’s not impossible, especially since he just threw 120 strikeouts two seasons ago. He was dealing with forearm issues off and on all of 2022, but if he has a healthy season, he should reach his milestone.

These will all be some exciting milestones to keep track of as the season progresses. Greinke is slated to begin his 2023 season on the mound against Pablo Lopez and the Minnesota Twins. By the way, Greinke is one of three Opening Day starters from the 2010 season or earlier who remain active (Justin Verlander, Wainwright). It will be a historic 2023 season for many of the veteran pitchers.
