NFL Rumors: Lamar Jackson doesn’t want full guarantees — just most guaranteed

Whenever the talks about why Lamar Jackson hasn’t signed, either with the Baltimore Ravens or another team as part of the non-exclusive franchise tag stipulations, one of the big sticking points in the conversation has been that the quarterback wants a fully guaranteed contract, a la Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Turns out, that might not actually be the truth.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reported (h/t Dov Kleiman) that Jackson actually isn’t set on a fully guaranteed contract. What he does want, however, is to receiver the most guaranteed money on a contract in NFL history, essentially meaning that he wants more than the $230 million the Browns gave Watson.

Would he accept $231 million guaranteed? That’s the real question here.

Reports around the league have indicated that the Lamar Jackson market is largely tepid due to the fact that most teams expect the Ravens to match any offer given to the quarterback. At the same time, though, if the situation in Baltimore become completely untenable, there are also rumblings that Jackson could potentially hold out and not play another down for the team that drafted him.

It’s a situation with the potential to get ugly and, more importantly, it’s also a situation that could truly shake up the entire landscape of the NFL was the 2019 MVP holding out, being traded, or anything out of just signing a deal with the Ravens would be ground-shaking.
