Victor Wembanyama gives tanking NBA teams a heart attack for April Fool’s Day

A parody Twitter account sent out an April Fool’s joke about Victor Wembanyama’s NBA Draft status, and the prospect played along with it.

It’s Apr. 1, which means that the sports world will be sitting on pins and needles. That’s because it’s April Fool’s Day and parody accounts on social media (who now have blue checkmarks on Twitter) are tweeting out fake news to try and, well, make a fool of people who share it.

That’s why we recommend following the legitimate accounts of reporters and insiders and turning on notifications, so you know it’s them. So, you can avoid situations like this.

A parody account on Twitter sent out message claiming that the top prospect in the upcoming NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, opted to stay with Metropolitans 92.

That tweet definitely scared the fanbases of teams who are sitting at the bottom of the league standings and are well out of the playoff and play-in tournament picture.

As of this writing, the Detroit Pistons (16-61), Houston Rockets (19-59), and San Antonio Spurs (19-58) have the best odds of winning the NBA Draft lottery with 14.0-percent, per Tankathon.

Wembanyama showed what he’s capable of during an exhibition series last fall, he can block shots, grab rebounds, and score with ease anywhere, including behind the three-point line.

This season with Metropolitans 92, Wembanyama is averaging 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, and 2.2 assists, while posting a field goal percentage of 47.0 and a three-point percentage of 31.4 in 26 games.

NBA fans are going to be watching the Draft Lottery intently on May 16, to see who will win the No. 1 pick to select Wembanyama. Not to mention, whoever wins the second-overall pick has the chance to select the G-League’s Scoot Henderson.
