The first round at the 2023 Masters is officially in the books.

Augusta National was as gettable today as it will be all weekend, as long as the weather forecast remains accurate. As a result, there were some low scores being posted from start to finish.

Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka will enter the second round as co-leaders, all three posting a 7-under 65.

Rahm’s round was especially impressive considering he started with a double bogey on the 1st hole. After the double bogey, he played the rest of the round in 59 strokes.

Based on the weather forecast, we’re not likely to get in a full round on Friday due to projected thunderstorms. If that’s the case, it will wrap up on Saturday morning and there may be some golfers who won’t get a chance to play a single hole on Friday.

Regardless, let’s take a look at the live odds and then I’ll break down who I think is the best golfer to bet on after the opening round.

Best Masters live bet after Round 1

Live betting after the first round is a great time to take a shot at someone who was near the top of the odds board pre-tournament, but stumbled a bit in the opening round. With three rounds to go, there’s plenty of time to catch up.

So, I’m going to look at Patrick Cantlay, who posted a 1-under 71 on Thursday.

According to DataGolf.com, Cantlay gained +4.03 strokes from tee-to-green, one of t he better marks in the field. His issue was his putting, where he lost -2.44 strokes to the field.

That’s uncharacteristic for Cantlay, who entered the event ranking 45th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: putting. I expect positive regression in that area for him, and if he does improve his putting while maintaining his play in the other areas, he can make a run at this thing.

He’s also 5th in bogey avoidance, which is going to be hugely important when the conditions worsen on the weekend.

At 50/1, he presents some great value heading into Friday’s round.
