It’s these three Philadelphia Phillies players who could be off the roster by May 1.

The 2023 season hasn’t started off the way the Philadelphia Phillies envisioned. Three bad losses against the Texas Rangers and two more versus the New York Yankees have them wishing interleague play could be banished.

They carry a 1-5 record into their home opener on Friday with a roster that has a ton of questions. There is plenty of time to turn things around. The Phillies may have to do with a few different names and faces involved.

Over the next few weeks of April, we should expect more roster moves for the Phillies as they try to figure out who the best and most appropriate players are for their roster. Which three players are most likely to be gone by May 1?

1) Phillies pitcher McKinley Moore will not be on the roster by May 1

Pitcher McKinley Moore is brand new to the big league club. Promoted earlier this week, his professional career isn’t anything to get too excited about. In parts of four minor league seasons, Moore is 9-8 with a 4.32 ERA. His presence on the big league club is to give their battered bullpen a fresh arm.

Moore came to the Phillies in a trade with the Chicago White Sox for outfielder Adam Haseley. For those curious, Haseley spent nearly all of the 2022 season in the minors for Chicago. He appeared in only 14 games for them and has started this season in Triple-A yet again. The eighth overall selection in the 2017 draft never made it work in Philadelphia. They gave up on him and went with what they’re hoping can become some future bullpen depth.

Set your 2023 expectations low for Moore. He’ll take on the role of reliever who goes back and forth between the majors and minors. By May 1, the Phillies will undoubtedly need to option someone again. He’s the first one they probably will.
