Every young player thinks they’ll play for the same team forever, but that’s rarely how it works. Former Dodgers star Cody Bellinger, now with the Cubs, was the same way.

Cody Bellinger was a two-time All-Star and NL MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers. At one point in time, he thought he’d spend his entire career in LA, but that was before a deep downturn in his statistical output, and a series of tough seasons that forced him out of his familiar shade of blue.

Now with the Cubs, Bellinger has a new lease on life as a baseball player. He’s aiming to turn around his career, and hopefully look more like his 2019 self than the 2020 and 2021 versions which frustrated Dodgers fans immensely.

What went wrong in LA? It’s tough to say. But Bellinger looks back on those days fondly, and once thought he’d be a Dodger forever.

Dodgers wish Cody Bellinger the best with Cubs

Cody Bellinger hasn’t raised eyebrows yet with Chicago, but he has the kind of power to send the ball out of Wrigley Field quickly when at his best. Dodgers president Andrew Friedman wished Bellinger the best when asked about his time in Los Angeles:

“Knowing how hard he worked and how much he cared, that’s really all we can ask for,” Friedman said. “So, nothing but love and respect for Cody.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted he wished things could have ended differently for Bellinger in Los Angeles.

“I wish we could have done more to support him and get some more consistency for him,” Roberts added, per the LA Times. “But sometimes you just don’t have any answers.”

Late in his Dodgers tenure, Bellinger didn’t have many answers. That’s why a fresh start was so necessary. Hopefully, with another big club in Chicago, he receives the turnaround he so desperately seeks.
