The Zurich Classic is the only team event on the PGA Tour but, with that being the case, golf fans are wondering if there is a cut at the tournament.

Outside of the Match Play event, the only other big deviation from the normal weeks on the PGA Tour is the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Rather than 72-hole standard stroke-play golf, the annual trip to TPC Louisiana is the Tour’s only team event, with pairs of pros getting together for a week of a unique format.

Because of the team format, rather than regular stroke-play, the rounds are split between two playing four-ball (best ball) and two playing foursomes (alternate shot). Those rounds are split up between Thursday and Saturday, then Friday and Sunday, respectively.

There are 80 teams with 160 total players competing in the Zurich Classic but, with the teams in the fray, some golf fans are wondering if this is a standard week and, more specifically, if there is a cut at the Zurich Classic.

Is there a cut at the Zurich Classic?

There is a cut at the Zurich Classic this week. With the field being 80 teams, though, some changes from the standard cut of Top 65 and ties have been made.

The Zurich Classic cut rules are the Top 33 teams and ties will make it through to play the weekend. So, in essence, with the field size technically cut roughly in half with players pairing up, the cut is also chopped in half with the Top 33 teams playing the final two rounds.

But at the end of the day, even with the team event and unique formats for the PGA Tour, the edict stays the same for these players: If you play well, you’ll be around on the weekend to cash in with a payday.
