Will Levis had an erratic final collegiate season at Kentucky, but a host of NFL teams are interested in making him a top-10 draft pick.

At his best, Will Levis looked like a potential All-Pro quarterback during his time as a Kentucky Wildcat. Unfortunately for the talented signal-caller, those highlights were counteracted by a number of lowlights last season.

As a result, Levis’s draft stock took a significant hit. He entered the 2022 college football season as a bona fide contender to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. At various points during the pre-draft process, it’s looked as if Levis might fall into the bottom half of Round 1. Fortunately for Levis, recent reports have his stock rebounding significantly.

Todd McShay’s recent “Draft Buzz” article revealed his belief that the Colts are “extremely intrigued” with the idea of selecting Levis with the No. 4 overall pick. Quarterback is a clear area of need for Indianapolis with Gardner Minshew currently occupying the number one spot on the team’s depth chart.

Levis possesses the ideal size for NFL teams interested in employing a drop-back passer. Combine that with his above-average arm strength and it’s easy to see why a team like the Colts could fall in love with his workouts.

The problem with Levis is that his production last season at Kentucky just didn’t match his theoretical talent level. Some of his struggles can be attributed to the lack of elite talent around him and the turnover on his offensive coaching staff but some of it has to land on Levis’s broad shoulders. He made some inexcusable throws last year that must be coached out of him at the pro level.

The Colts clearly believe his mistakes on film can be fixed by their offensive coaching staff. If they’re right, they could easily have the next Josh Allen on their hands. The downside with Levis is just as steep. If he doesn’t prove capable of eliminating those mental errors he could turn into Sam Darnold 2.0. That would represent a disaster for the Colts or any team interested in taking him with a first-round pick.
