No. 2 team that won the first round of the NFL Draft: Houston Texans

The lead-up to the draft featured a consistent question for the Texans: Would they go best available and take Will Anderson or would they lock whichever quarterback the Panthers spurned as their QB of the future?

Houston’s answer was simple: Both.

In a surprise turn of events, the Texans found a way to get the best of both worlds by drafting Stroud at No. 2 and trading up to get Anderson at No. 3.

Stroud was electric at Ohio State and he has the arm and accuracy to become a great NFL quarterback. Concerns about his performance on the S2 cognitive processing test are valid but Houston couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a potential franchise QB.

Meanwhile, Anderson may be the surest thing in the draft after a storied career at Alabama.

With two selections in the Top 3, the Texans got focal points for their offense and defense. The rebuild still needs a lot of work but the foundational pieces should be in place after this first round.
