MLB Rumors: Will the White Sox start selling?

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Chicago White Sox. Unlike most organizations which preach patience, there’s a fair bit of pessimism around this team. Something has to change, and after a tough 2022 campaign, there’s a good chance the White Sox move forward with a new core.

Southside Showdown’s Andrew Falkner laid out what a fire sale might look like — who should stay and who will go?

"“Tim Anderson, Eloy Jimenez, Yasmani Grandal, Lucas Giolito, and Lance Lynn are just a few to name that could potentially be dealt by the trade deadline. All of these guys provide something other teams in the MLB don’t have and the White Sox can receive a loaded haul of prospects in return. The White Sox should enter a new era and create a major-league roster built around Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, Andrew Vaughn, Oscar Colas, Colson Montgomery, Andrew Benintendi, and Luis Robert Jr.”"

There you have it.

This topic was also touched on by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, who suggested the White Sox could sell around the trade deadline. Rosenthal first suggests that the Sox could merely trade pending 2023-24 free agents, but that would lead to an increase in payroll eventually, which Jerry Reinsdorf might not be comfortable with.

In the end, it comes down to one question: Do the White Sox believe in this core?

If not, there’s no point in hanging on.
