3. Javier Baez struggles with injuries, consistency

Since leaving the Cubs, Javy Baez has seemed to lose that magic he had with the team. He went from being a player who makes spectacular plays and timely hits to a player struggling with injury and finding some consistency when healthy.

Baez has a hand injury that recently sidelined him. This season he is slashing .221/.277/.267 with a staggering OPS of .544. In 24 games with the Tigers, he’s hit 15 singles, four doubles, six walks, 10 RBI, and 19 strikeouts. Sure, this is through the first month of the season, but not what we’re accustomed to seeing from Baez.

Earlier this week, Baez took a 93-mph fastball from Freddy Peralta off his left hand. Hopefully, Baez can heal and compete with the Tigers. He has to be frustrated as he is in the second season of a six-year contract with the Tigers worth $140 million.
