Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay defended himself against a fan who claimed he’s done nothing but support general manager Brian Cashman.

It’s been a tough stretch for the New York Yankees. Even when they win, it feels like a loss.

Last night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians resulted in yet another blown lead by Clay Holmes, and several bad decisions from manager Aaron Boone, who is pushing all the wrong buttons lately. Brian Cashman, who has preached patience to a fanbase that is all too tired of hearing the same excuses, is on the metaphorical hot seat with Yankees supporters as well.

It should be noted here that Michael Kay is an employee of the Yanks, to a certain extent. He can’t go around blasting the organization at every turn, as he’s the primary game announcer for YES, the team’s broadcast partner.

Michael Kay unhappy with Yankees fan who questioned his integrity

Cashman, like most general managers, is known more by fans for his bad moves than his good ones. Extending Aaron Judge? Well, that was a no-brainer, and goes by the wayside when looking at the roster construction of this current team. Carlos Rodon is forever injured, as is Giancarlo Stanton. Left field remains an unfilled void, which he addressed on Wednesday:

“We’ve got what we’ve got and we’re going to go with what we’ve got unless something can be obtained elsewhere that makes sense. There’s no guarantee that will happen,” Cashman said.

Welp, that’s not going to cut it.

From what we can tell, Kay didn’t defend Cashman on the broadcast. Some fans insinuated that he did, and Kay made the mistake of listening to the Twitterverse.

New York sits in last place in the crowded AL East. They are a team mired with injuries. Eventually, all of that should settle, but for now the fanbase is rightly frustrated with a team that ought to perform up to a certain standard.
