Potential Aaron Boone replacement for the New York Yankees: Mike Shildt

As was discussed in this article listing Shildt as a potential candidate to be back in St. Louis if the Cardinals fired Oliver Marmol as their manager, he was solid as the St. Louis skipper, being tabbed as the NL Manager of the Year in 2019 as St. Louis recorded a 91-71 record and won the NL Central.

With an overall record of 252-199 in three-plus seasons in St. Louis, Shildt didn’t do anything necessarily wrong to get the axe. The Cardinals, however, felt he wasn’t the person to get them deep into the postseason. Marmol hasn’t been able to do that either since being hired, so did St. Louis give up on Shildt too early?

On the coaching staff in San Diego now, Shildt has expressed the desire to manage again. Taking over the Yankees could be the perfect opportunity to see exactly what he could bring to the dugout. If it’s the same kind of winning culture he brought in St. Louis, Yankees fans would likely gladly welcome the switch.

If Boone is fired in the Bronx, don’t be surprised to see Shildt’s name as one of the potential replacements.
