Friday in Miami will mark the Major League debut for 20-year-old Eury Perez, the Marlins next phenom pitcher. The 6-foot-8 Perez is the No. 10 overall prospect in baseball and will become the youngest pitcher in Marlins history. He will face the Cincinnati Reds and Graham Ashcraft who is set to make his eighth start of the season.

The Reds are in fourth in the NL Central heading into this three-game weekend set in Miami while the Marlins enter in a crowded bunch near the top of the NL East. Let’s get into the odds for Game 1 of this series and Perez’s promising career.

Reds vs. Marlins odds, run line and total

Reds vs. Marlins prediction and pick

Perez is the type of pitcher you would expect in a 6-foot-8 frame. His fastball lives 94-97 and he can touch 100 with it. He also features a changeup and a slider, but will rely on that heater to get by in the majors. He will need to navigate a Cincinnati lineup that has been strong lately with the 10th best OPS in the majors over the past week. He’ll need to do it without a lot of help from his own struggling lineup.

The Marlins carry an OPS of .617 in the past week and their 21 runs scored is 22nd in the league for that stretch, and will have to face Graham Ashcraft who has been very effective most of this season. Ashcraft has an ERA of 3.82 after a 1.2 inning outing against the White Sox where he gave up eight earned runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Ashcraft’s last trip to the mound was a disaster, but it feels like a bounce back is coming for him and with the youngest pitcher in the Marlins history debuting on the other side, I like the Reds as an underdog.
