Georgia football rumors: Kirby Smart loses out to Coach Prime for Top 100 recruit

When Deion Sanders was hired by the Colorado Buffaloes, he promised that he was bringing his bags and that they were Louis. Of course, the narrative since he arrived in Boulder has largely been about completely reshaping the roster by way of the transfer portal with an unprecedented amount of turnover in that regard. The next step was making an impact on the recruiting trail.

He’s done that at least once now in the 2024 cycle, much to the chagrin of Georgia and Kirby Smart.

On Tuesday, 4-star athlete and Top 100 recruit Aaron Butler committed to the Buffs, choosing Colorado over the two other perceived leading contenders for the Calabasas, CA native, Oregon and UGA.

Initially a USC commit who re-opened his recruitment, he could’ve been a big-time addition for the Bulldogs with his talent and versatility. He’s listed as an athlete because he has legitimate Power 5 ability to play either cornerback or wide receiver. Getting him into the Georgia program to work and find his best position would’ve been enticing for fans to behold.

With that said, Coach Prime is making an early statement here that he’s a serious player in the recruiting game now that he has Colorado’s resources behind him. Of course, the smart money would be on Kirby Smart and the Dawgs winning the majority of the battles with Prime and Buffs more often than not.

Even still, beating UGA out for Butler definitely should sound some minor alarms.
