Looking at the 2023 US Open for golf’s next major and when the tournament it is, where it’s being played, if LIV Golf members can play and more.

Brooks Koepka is a major champion once again, holding off both Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler in the final round of the PGA Championship to get his first major victory since 2019. But now he will look to keep that running at the next major of the year, the 2023 US Open.

The US Open has often been the most difficult test in golf as the USGA, the governing body that runs the major, has often taken the host courses to the brink of being impossible to play by baking out greens, growing out absurd rough, putting pins in ridiculous positions, and so on. So the US Open is always a treat for golf fans to watch the best players in the world have to battle.

With the PGA in the rearview now, though, golf fans are wondering when is the 2023 US Open, where is the tournament, and other things as well. Don’t worry, we have the answers.

When is the 2023 US Open? Dates and schedule

The 2023 US Open will be played on June 15-18, just under a month after the conclusion of the PGA Championship. It will be the third major championship of the golf season and will add another champion to the historic list of major winners after Jon Rahm put on the Green Jacket at The Masters and Brooks Koepka added a third Wanamaker Trophy to his collection.

Where is the 2023 US Open? Course info, major championship history

The 2023 US Open will be played at Los Angeles Country Club on the North Course of the property that features two 18-hole tracks. The North Course at LACC is a Par 70 that measures a difficult 7,200 yards with a course rating of 75.7 and slope rating of 143. It has already been touted by those who have scouted it early as a potentially diabolical test of the best golfers in the world.

LACC does not have any major championship history as the only time the PGA Tour even stopped at the venue was in 1926, 1934-36 and 1940 for the Los Angeles Open. This will be the first time Los Angeles Country Club has hosted a major in men’s or women’s golf.

Can LIV Golf players play the 2023 US Open?

As was the case last year, LIV Golf players will be eligible to play at the 2023 US Open at LACC. Having said that, there have been some controversies involving that over the past year or so, most recently involving Talor Gooch.

Gooch, who left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf before the end of the former’s season, still qualified for the TOUR Championship in the FedExCup Playoffs, which had previously been in the USGA’s requirement for getting into the US Open. However, they altered those rules to say “qualified and eligible”, leaving Gooch out of qualifying for this year’s major in Los Angeles because his departure for LIV Golf rendered him ineligible to play in the PGA Tour’s season finale. A missed cut at the PGA Championship left him out of the Top 60 in the world, thus shutting him off from the US Open.

Who won the 2022 US Open in golf?

Matt Fitzpatrick put his name among the major champions by winning the 2022 US Open at The Country Club in Brookline, MA. Incidentally, Fitzpatrick is now 2-for-2 in USGA events played at Brookline as that was also the site of his US Amateur win just shy of a decade prior to getting the victory at America’s national championship in golf.
