NFL rumors: 3 worst possible DeAndre Hopkins outcomes for Chiefs
By John Buhler
DeAndre Hopkins can be the star receiver Lamar Jackson has always wanted
Even though the Baltimore Ravens signed Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason, he is coming off a twice-repaired knee. He may have a few years left of high-quality ball left in the tank, but I would guess that his best football is behind him. This is why the Ravens may double-down in the veteran free agent wide receiver market and kick the tires on Hopkins. Baltimore may have enough money.
They have slightly more available cap space than the Los Angeles Chargers, but that’s largely inconsequential. The biggest reason why the Ravens edge out the Chargers for the No. 2 worst spot for the Chiefs here is they could actually win the division. Although I do like the Cincinnati Bengals having staying power atop the AFC North, their gap on the Ravens is not by that much.
Essentially, the Ravens picking up Hopkins could make them a top three or four team in the AFC, right in the same class as the Bengals, Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. A Hopkins addition takes away some of the Bengals’ shine, while creating another worthy adversary for teams like the Bills and Chiefs to overcome. Since Kansas City owns Buffalo, we shouldn’t view them as a threat anyway.
Hopkins to the Ravens has the chance to shift the AFC North into Baltimore’s favor over Cincinnati.
