NFL rumors: 3 worst possible DeAndre Hopkins outcomes for Chiefs
By John Buhler
New York Jets have Aaron Rodgers, as well as more money to spend than anyone
I didn’t know the New York Jets were an option until I saw what they had on the books. Although they haven’t won squat since I could mostly legally drink, Gang Green does have Aaron Rodgers as their new starting quarterback. Even more importantly, they have about $76 million in available cap space. I did the math. I believe if it checks out, they can spend more on Hopkins than anyone.
So what does this have to do with the Chiefs? Potentially everything. Even though the Jets play in the same division as the Buffalo Bills, who cares? It’ll be another year without Brian Daboll giving Josh Allen all the answers on the test. He is immensely talented, but Buffalo is immensely frustrating to watch when the Bills can’t run the football. The Jets could beat them out in-division.
As with the Baltimore Ravens, Hopkins to the Jets may force them into the conversation of being a top-four team in the AFC. That would mean the Chiefs would probably have to play in them in either the divisional round or the AFC Championship game. Rodgers may have had issues in NFC title bouts, but AFC title bouts could be what he is all about. Either way, the Jets can pay Hopkins.
Not to say that the Jets need Hopkins, but landing him means he doesn’t play for anyone else.
