The Vegas Golden Knights aim to make the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in their franchise’s short history.
The Vegas Golden Knights are one of twelve NHL teams that have never won the Stanley Cup.
Up 3-1 over the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals, the Golden Knights are one win away from a trip to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights were only founded in 2017 as an expansion team, so they are on the cusp of making their second appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals in just six seasons.
Since being founded in the 2017-18 season, the Golden Knights have reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs five out of six years in their history. They did not qualify for the playoffs in 2021-22 but came roaring back in the 2022-23 regular season, winning the Pacific Division with 111 points.
The Stanley Cup Finals are within striking distance for the Vegas Golden Knights
In the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Golden Knights won their first round matchup against the Winnipeg Jets. They went on to beat the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Semifinals. Standouts for Vegas in the playoffs are captain Mark Stone, winger Jonathan Marchessault, center Jack Eichel, and goalie Adin Hill.
After winning three games in a row, the Golden Knights still need one more win against the Stars in the Western Conference Finals to advance. They had the opportunity to clinch in Game 4 and complete a sweep, but they fell to the Stars in overtime, so the series will go to at least five games.
If the Golden Knights reach the Stanley Cup Finals, they will face the Florida Panthers, who also have not won the Stanley Cup. In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes in four straight games to clinch their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Panthers and the Golden Knights each have reached the final series once before this season.
If the Golden Knights and the Panthers meet in the finals, the Golden Knights would have their work cut out for them. The Panthers got hot at the right time, and no one in the Eastern Conference has been able to slow them down. The Panthers are waiting to hear who their opponent will be in the finals. The Golden Knights are a win away from advancing, but they need to keep the Stars from making a comeback.
The Vegas Golden Knights have never won a Stanley Cup. Could 2023 be their year?
