CONCACAF Gold Cup teams, schedule, groups, location and more

The soccer world is going to start looking at the United States a little more when the CONCACAF Gold Cup starts to take place. Here is a breakdown of how the CONCACAF Gold Cup will work. 

Concacaf Gold Cup has already held its official draw of teams that will start the month’s journey to be crowned the best national team in the region. This tournament will be taking place between June 16 and July 16th, being played through 15 different stadiums in 14 United States and Canadian areas.

The official draw on April 14th, 2023 that took place determined the Prelim and Group Stages. Once all the teams were announced the schedule was conducted and released. The Prelims will be played first to see which last three teams will be placed into the Groups Stage.

2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims

The Gold Cup prelims will be played at the DVR PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL, which will take place between June 16 and June 20, 2023. For the prelims, it will be broken down into two different rounds. In Round One, there will be 12 teams that will be broken down into six different matches.

Here is the breakdown for Round One: (All times are listed in ET)

Friday, June 16, 2023:

  • 4:30 PM: Trinidad and Tobago vs Guadeloupe
  • 7:00 PM: Martinique vs Saint Lucia
  • 9:00 PM: Curacao vs Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saturday, June 17, 2023

  • 4:30 PM: French Guiana vs Sint Maarten
  • 7:00 PM: Suriname vs Puerto Rico
  • 9:00 PM Guyana vs Grenada

After these matches are played, the six winning teams will then head on to play in Round Two. This will be another three matches which will then determine the last three teams to be placed into the Group Stage.

Here are the pre-determined pairings for the Round Two matches:

Tuesday, June 20, 2023:

  • 4:30 PM: Winner Prelims 1 vs Winner Prelims 6
  • 7:00 PM: Winner Prelims 2 vs Winner Prelims 5
  • 9:00 PM: Winner Prelims 3 vs Winner Prelims 4

2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Group Stage

The Group Stage will take place from June 24th until July 16, 2023. This will feature the 12 Concacaf national teams that qualified through their performance during their Concacaf Nations League group stages. It will also have a guest participant which is the AFC Asian Cup Champions, Qatar. Then the three Prelims winners will also be placed into their Groups.

Here is a breakdown of the groups in the Group Stages:

  • Group A: United States, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Prelims Winner 9
  • Group B: Mexico, Haiti, Honduras, and Qatar
  • Group C: Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, and Prelims Winner 8
  • Group D: Canada, Guatemala, Cuba, and Prelims Winner 7

The Group Stage will be played in a Round Robin fashion. The schedule and host venues have already been set and are as follows: (All times are listed in ET)

2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Knockout Stage

After all of the Group Stage matches are played, the top two teams from each group (eight teams total) will move on to the Knockout Stage. The Knockout stage will consist of the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Gold Cup final which will be played at SoFi Stadium.
