Matt Rhule is looking to add another quarterback to the mix to rebuild Nebraska football.

With Jeff Sims expected to be the starter for the Nebraska football team this season and three-star Daniel Kaelin coming aboard in 2024, Matt Rhule seems to have turned his attention to Stone Saunders for 2025.

During a recent Nebraska football camp, the three-star quarterback from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania certainly turned some heads. Saunders may hail from outside The Cornhusker State, but so did Rhule. Harrisburg is right in the heart of Penn State territory, which just so happens to be Rhule’s alma mater. Since UNL still needs a quarterback for the 2025, it just might end up being Saunders.

With improved quarterback play, Nebraska could have its opportunity to return to glory here soon.

Nebraska football appears to be turning attention to 2025 QB Stone Saunders

Look. Even though stars do matter, if you are going after a quarterback in Penn State’s backyard and one that another strong program in the Kentucky Wildcats have interest in, then you are doing what it takes to be successful. It may not be until 2024 or 2025 before Nebraska is ready to upend some of its Big Ten rivals with greater regularity to go bowling, but strong recruiting is a nice start!

By year three under Rhule’s reign at a college program, you are looking at a team capable of winning 10 games and playing some championship-caliber football in-conference. With the Big Ten expanding from 14 to 16 teams next year with USC and UCLA coming over from the Pac-12, this would be undeniably massive for the Huskers. Then again, this is what they hired him to do.

I may be drinking the red kool-aid, but I have liked everything I have seen and heard coming out of the Nebraska football program thus far under Rhule. While he was not a good NFL head coach, what he did at Baylor and Temple previously is still very fresh in my mind. Keep in mind Nebraska wasn’t losing by much when Scott Frost was the head coach. Rhule will make quite the difference.

If Kaelin and Saunders can bring the best out of each other in 2025, we may see Nebraska win big.
