USMNT rumors: Berhalter to Sparta, Balogun to Juventus, Tillman to Brighton
Today’s USMNT rumors article includes Gregg Berhalter being in consideration for the Sparta Rotterdam job. Folarin Balogun could become an option for Juventus and Malik Tillman has been linked with Brighton.
USMNT rumors: Gregg Berhalter to Sparta Rotterdam
Gregg Berhalter has recently been backed by Tim Weah and Christian Pulisic to retain his job as head coach of the USMNT. However, it appears the manager could be set on a return to the club game with Sparta Rotterdam.
ESPN has reported that “Sparta wants to switch quickly and is in talks with the former national coach of the United States.”
The players who want Berhalter back coaching the Stars and Stripes would be disappointed to hear this. U.S. Soccer is looking at other options with Heath Pearce on the In Soccer We Trust podcast revealing that the organisation are interviewing LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo.
Berhalter last coached in Europe with the Swedish side Hammarby but that was 10 years ago. Joining Sparta could be the perfect fit for him to return to European soccer.
USMNT rumors: Folarin Balogun to Juventus
Folarin Balogun’s debut for the USMNT against Mexico this week has been much anticipated. However, his club future is still up in the air with the player set to return to Arsenal after spending last season on loan at Reims.
Many teams across Europe are interested in Balogun and he has now been linked with Juventus. According to Rudy Galetti the striker “could become a concrete option in the case of a farewell to Dusan Vlahovic.
The Old Lady finished 7th in Serie A last season, so they will be in the Europa Conference League in the next campaign. They were not helped by a 10-point deduction for financial irregularities. Despite these problems, the Old Lady is still one of the biggest clubs in the world and it would be a spectacular move for Balogun.
USMNT rumors: Malik Tillman to Brighton
Rangers face competition to sign Malik Tillman permanently from Bayern Munich with teams from the Premier League entering the race to sign the American. The Daily Mail has revealed that “Brighton and Brentford are among the admirers keen on signing Bayern Munich’s attacking midfielder Malik Tillman.
“Rangers are understood to hold an option to sign him for £5m but Bayern believe they can get more with the Seagulls and Bees among interested clubs.”
Tillman scored 10 goals for the Gers in the Scottish Premiership last season and won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award. Given his success, it could be time for him to test himself at a higher level in England.
Brighton and Brentford both had impressive seasons where they finished 6th and 9th respectively in the Premier League. The Seagulls will be playing in the Europa League next season and will need to add to their squad. They have already lost Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool, so Tillman could be the man to replace the Argentine in Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield.
