Today’s USMNT news includes Yunus Musah being linked with West Ham United. There has been an update on the vacant head coach role with the Stars and Stripes and Sergino Dest could be set to stay with Barcelona.

USMNT news: Yunus Musah to West Ham

West Ham United look set to lose Declan Rice to Arsenal this summer. However, the Hammers could be set to replace their star midfielder with Yunus Musah.

According to CBS Sports, “Musah, 20, has admirers at several clubs in the Premier League but it is West Ham who have so far shown the most sustained interest in the midfielder, though that is yet to transform into a concrete offer for his services.”

Replacing Rice would be a big challenge for Musah but the USMNT player did very well in a Valencia side that just avoided relegation last season so should be up for the task. West Ham will be playing in the Europa League in the next campaign after their victory in the Europa Conference League.

Moving to the Premier League with a club that is competing in European soccer is a no-brainer for Musah. He was part of Arsenal’s academy, so moving to West Ham will also see the player return to London.

USMNT news: head coach update

There has not been much progress on who will be the next head coach of the USMNT. The Stars and Stripes are now on their second interim coach as B.J. Callaghan succeeded Anthony Hudson. Although, U.S. Soccer has reportedly been working hard on the recruitment process.

Fox Sports has revealed that sporting director Matt Crocker “has spoken to more than 10 candidates for the USMNT job, people with knowledge of the conversations said this week. Multiple candidates are American. But many of the hopefuls hail from other countries — France, England, Germany and Spain among them. One coach Crocker spoke to about the role is from Central America.”

The names of the coaches interviewed have not been named but there are rumors that they include Steve Cherundolo, Jesse Marsch, Hugo Perez, Pellegrino Matarazzo, Thierry Henry and Luis Enrique.

Meanwhile, Gregg Berhalter appears to have moved on from being considered for the role, despite being publicly backed by many USMNT players. ESPN has reported that “Berhalter is in the running for the vacant managerial posts at Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam and Liga MX giants Club America.”

USMNT news: Sergino Dest could stay with Barcelona

It was expected that Sergino Dest would move on from Barcelona this summer after the defender had an unsuccessful spell at AC Milan last season. However, Achraf Ben Hamid has said, “So far there are no offers for the player” and that Barca has not ruled out Dest staying with the club.

It is a difficult time for Dest, but he can look forward to playing against Mexico this week. He was part of the side that drew 1-1 with El Tri last April, so with his club future still uncertain he can seek refuge in this fixture.
