The eighth race of the 2023 Formula 1 season is here with the Canadian Grand Prix.

Saturday’s qualifying session was anything but straight forward as rain had an impact throughout.

Coming off three straight race wins, Max Verstappen got a step closer to a fourth by locking in a fifth pole position of the season.

Seeing Verstappen in the front row is no surprise to F1 fans. But Nico Hulkenberg nearly started there as well. The Haas driver had some luck as he made it across the start-finish line just moments before Oscar Piastri’s crash resulted in a red flag. By the time Q3 restarted, the rain made it impossible for any driver to improve their existing time. However, he received a three-place grid penalty.

Carlos Sainz also picked up a three-place penalty along with Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda.
