One mascot couldn’t hold his true feelings in when the Charlotte Hornets passed on Scoot Henderson at No. 2 in the NBA Draft

At the Charlotte Hornets’ draft party, Hugo the Hornet, the team mascot, was very disappointed that the team end up taking Brandon Miller over Scoot Henderson.

His disappointment was incredible visible out in front of the fans.

Surely, not the kind of reaction and energy the team wants on what is supposed to be a celebratory night.

This mascot will surely end up getting some kind of talking to from his boss about this. The debate for who the Hornets would take at the No. 2 overall pick was where the draft started.

The team was thought to be looking at trade offers for the pick but was looking at selecting Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller at the number two pick. The trade offers included heavy interest from the Pelicans who were granted a draft visit with Scoot Henderson before the draft.

This was the last pick that owner Micheal Jordan had the final say on. The GOAT is shifting his stake in the team to only a minor share.

Why would the mascot be disappointed in selecting Miller instead of Henderson?

Scoot Henderson is a player that really seems to be the second-best player in this class. Henderson is a player that is seen to have more potential by draft scouts. Still, Miller is the better fit for the team. Yes, two elite guards have co-existed before.

James Harden and Chris Paul are an example. Another example is John Wall and Bradley Beal. Still, the Hornets opted for the player that looks better on paper and doesn’t create any questions about how the two-lead guards will co-exist.  Whether Hugo ends up being right for his outrage or not is up for debate but this is certainly a pick that Hornets fans did not like.

The Hornets are now set up with a future that has franchise cornerstones in Lamelo Ball, and Brandon Miller. Time will if Miller is able to overcome the amount of slander given to him on draft night. If he is, this would be one last great note for Jordan’s ownership era with the team.

Next. Grades for every single pick in 2023 NBA Draft. dark
