Bears that need to take the next step: 1. Justin Fields

There’s nothing more important for the Bears in 2023 than the continued development of Justin Fields. They had a chance to replace him with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft and elected to commit to him. It’s imperative that he repay their faith with progress this year if he wants the organization to stick with him.

The front office also deserves credit for finally getting Fields a bona fide No. 1 wide receiver. D.J. Moore came over from Carolina in the trade for the No. 1 pick and should get a high percentage of targets in Eberflus’ offense. His ability to run after the catch should really help improve Fields’ efficiency as a passer.

The addition of first-round pick Darnell Wright at right tackle could also give Fields more time to breathe in the pocket. He was forced to run for his life all too often in 2022. He may never be a classic pocket-passer but he does need to improve that aspect of his game if he wants to become a top-10 starter.

Fields must take a meaningful step forward this year to make it a successful campaign for the Bears. Fortunately, he has the talent to make that happen.
