Wild-card landing spots for Fred VanVleet: 2. Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets would be a very interesting option for Fred VanVleet. The Rockets could offer VanVleet a short-term max contract which would be very beneficial for both sides. VanVleet would end up getting a lot of money due to the fact that there is no state income tax in Texas and the Rockets could get someone who would be their franchise player.

This is a team that is looking to make sure that they make the playoffs this season by investing in win-now free agents this offseason. If VanVleet would end up going to any team that is not the Raptors, it seems like the Rockets would have a good chance of landing him. Jake Fischer has reported that “whispers about the two parties” ending up together are gaining traction.

The Rockets could sign him to a deal that seems like overpaying but will be fine for their situation due to the fact that the team has a lot of players on rookie deals. Most of these players have one more year of team control before they have to be extended with veteran contracts.
