Mets rumors: Brooks Raley could end up traded from the Mets to a contender

If the Mets hit the short term reset button and trade Scherzer, the rest of these dominoes are bound to fall. One of the more likely pieces to be dealt would be the lefty reliever, Brooks Raley. Left-handed relievers are a premium among contending teams, providing huge backend help in the second half and beyond.

Raley is having a great 2023 season and has shown the ability to perform against lefties and righties, as he has allowed an average of .173 against righties and a .273 against lefties. His 2.51 ERA and 9.7 K/9 makes him a valuable asset to any team.

Bullpen help is usually one thing that every contending team reinforces at the trade deadline. Bullpen options are typically cheaper and rental option players. Raley would be no different, as he would likely net the Mets a few low-medium level prospects, as he has three years of team control, rather than just being a half season rental.

With Aroldis Chapman off the board, traded to the Rangers, the bullpen trade market is going to heat up. Brooks Raley is an option for any contending team, namely the Reds, Astros, Dodgers and even the Yankees. Don’t be surprised if Raley doesn’t finish the season in New York.
