The Braves could see quite a bit of movement in their roster as they push for the playoffs and beyond. These players are in danger of losing a roster spot.

The Atlanta Braves have one of the most talented and complete rosters in the entire MLB. They have one of the youngest and most dangerous lineups that baseball has seen in a few years, as well as a complete pitching staff.

But every contending team needs to, and will, make upgrades at the trade deadline. The Braves actually won the 2021 trade deadline, acquiring a few huge pieces en route to a World Series win. They could look to do the same in 2023, but with potential trade pieces coming in and some players returning from injuries, these players aren’t safe on the Braves active roster.

Comeback starter Michael Soroka could continue to bounce back and forth between Triple-A and the MLB

There aren’t many comeback stories that match the level of triumph and perseverance like that of starter Michael Soroka. Soroka missed the entire 2020 season with an Achilles’ tear before missing the entire 2021 season with another, different Achillies’ tear. Soroka returned to Atlanta this year, much to the delight of the Braves faithful. But he has constantly bounced between Triple-A and the MLB in 2023.

Two of the Braves five starters have missed a chunk of the season on the injured list. Starters Max Fried and Kyle Wright currently reside on the IL. When they return, they will likely join Spencer Strider, Bryce Elder and Charlie Morton in the starting rotation. When Wright and Fried return, what happens with the young Mike Soroka?

There are two options for the young starter. One is moving to the bullpen, where he could be used as a long reliever for Atlanta. The issue with that is the bullpen has been magnificent in 2023 and they will likely make trades to improve it even more. The other option is to return to Triple-A for a handful of starts, before returning in September and taking Charlie Morton’s spot in the rotation in 2024. The more likely option is the latter, where Soroka will be moved to Triple-A by August 1st.
