The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is here. As with any high-profile sports event, a special someone got an opportunity to belt out the national anthem to kick off the festivities.

With this year’s MLB All-Star week coming to a close, the most anticipated event, the All-Star game, is upon us.

Prior to the game, however, the Home Run Derby took place, and a special singer graced the stage to perform the national anthem ahead of the event.

The 2023 Home Run Derby was played at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Monday and featured high-profile names like Pete Alonso, Mookie Betts, Luis Robert Jr., and others. Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ended up taking first place in the competition and in turn made history: he and his dad, Guerrero Sr., are the only father-son duo to win the championship.

On that victorious day, who sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the crowds of Seattle?

MLB All-Star Game: Who sang the national anthem?

Who will sing the national anthem at the MLB All-Star Game? It was actress and recording artist Kiana Ledé, who had previously starred in a main role on the MTV TV show revival of Scream and released two studio albums, Kiki (2020) and Grudges (2023).

This year’s “American Idol” winner, Iam Tongi, performed the national anthem before the Home Run Derby.

The Hawaiian-born singer won the reality singing show in May and is only a senior in high school. In the latest season of “American Idol”, Tongi stole the nation’s hearts when he performed an original song, “I’ll Be Seeing You,” to honor his late father during the finale.

On Monday, Tongi raised a slight bit of controversy for not removing his hat prior to his national anthem performance. He posted about his gaffe afterward on Twitter:

All in all, Tongi delivered a beautiful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and helped get the ball rolling during All-Star week. Now, onto the MLB All-Star game!
