The Yankees need to understand they aren’t going anywhere this season. That’s why these three players should be placed on the trade block.

Giving up on a season isn’t standard operating procedure for the Yanks but it’s time for Brian Cashman and the front office to become sellers. New York has the roster talent required to get hot and make the playoffs but there’s no chance this collection of players can win a World Series title without serious changes.

That’s why the Bronx Bombers should be sellers ahead of this year’s trade deadline. Fans would love to see high-priced veterans like Josh Donaldson get moved but that’s a pipe dream. Instead, Cashman and his staff should focus on selling players who actually have potential value for contenders.

The first player on this list arrived in New York the last time the team elected to act as sellers at the deadline. Now he’s got a chance to bring back an infusion of young talent for a franchise that needs a hard reset.

3. Gleyber Torres

Torres has been a productive bat this season, but his shaky defense at second base continues to be a problem for his team. His weak glove combined with the reality that the Yankees only have one season of team control left on Torres makes this a great time to deal him to a contender.

Moving Torres would also allow New York to shift Anthony Volpe to second base. That would put much less pressure on the talented rookie and allow him to focus more attention on improving his bat.

Cashman has every right to ask a hefty price for Torres despite his flaws. He profiles as a borderline All-Star at second base who can really lift another lineup with his power. If Torres hits the trade market he should be able to bring several top-tier prospects back to New York. Flipping him for a projectable starting pitcher and outfielder would be excellent work.
