The Dallas Cowboys’ decision to trade for defensive back Stephon Gilmore is already working out wonderfully for America’s Team.

Stephon Gilmore is already pretty much a lock for Canton enshrinement, but he has a chance to add to his legacy based on what could be a very good Dallas Cowboys team this NFL season.

Gilmore may be on the back nine of his hall-of-fame career, but he is already doing his part in helping his new teammates get better. If you want proof of that, look at the quote Cowboys’ No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had to say about the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Iron sharpening iron is something that has largely been absent from the Cowboys’ culture for a while.

Yes, just read this quote and tell me you don’t think Dallas has a shot at getting to the Super Bowl.

This is the type of headiness the Cowboys have been lacking for the better part of three decades.

With the NFC still largely down, there are only a handful of teams with realistic aspirations of getting to Las Vegas in February. Yes, you could argue for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers over Dallas, but would it really shock you if America’s Team finally put it all together? If Dak Prescott plays up to his contract, yes, the Cowboys can win the NFC title bout.

It will have to take something special out of this Cowboys team to pull it off, but they did trade for someone destined for Canton with championship pedigree in Gilmore. If he can help Lamb and company unlock things, then I think that makes the entire operation better. Of course, how sure are we that Dallas is a better team with Kellen Moore calling plays for the Los Angeles Chargers?

Overall, it is going to take a total team effort for Dallas to do something they haven’t done since Troy Aikman was their starting quarterback. The Bill Clinton Administration was nearly 30 years ago. A lot has happened since the 1995 NFL season, guys! For now, let’s just enjoy the ride on the Cowboys hype train before it almost certainly gets out of control and will completely derail itself.

The little things have always been what have stood in the way of this team doing the bigger things.
