Fantasy football punishments are all the rage, especially if managers and their league mates take it seriously. Obviously, everyone is coming into the year hoping to win the league, take home the winnings and have year-long bragging rights. However, someone has to come in last place, and as a modern humiliation ritual, that comes with a fantasy football punishment that has to be paid by the league's caboose.
Punishments don't necessarily have to be over the top, though they certainly can be. Again, it all depends on how deeply committed you and your league mates are. We've got you covered with every portion of that as well, tiering our fantasy football punishments from the light-hearted to the ridiculous and over-the-top. Let's start with the lighter punishments and make our way into the diehard-level stuff.
Tame fantasy football punishments

The 24-hour food challenge
Maybe the most classic fantasy football punishment as they've gained popularity, this is also known as a time-reduction eating challenge. The loser goes to a restaurant, most often IHOP or Waffle House and have to be there for 24 hours. The catch: Every pancake or waffle eaten is an hour subtracted from the total time.
Take the SAT
It wasn't fun to take as a high schooler, and it definitely won't be fun to take as an adult. Honestly, I'm quite confident my score is dropping a couple hundred points if I were to take it now.
The 'I Suck at Fantasy Football' Sign
The level of commitment here can vary, for sure. But at its core, having the public humiliation of having a sign in a public place that says "I Suck at Fantasy Football" is pretty classic. You can make it as simple as going to the bar, or go all-out at an MLB game where you're alone in an entire section with the sign(s) like this guy.

Karaoke night
Whether the loser loves or hates karaoke, this can work as a punishment. That's because this isn't just going up and singing — it's going up and singing karaoke to a song of the league's choosing. Feel like we could end up with a lot of "Pink Pony Club" or the like here.
Your fantasy team name gets hostily taken over
If you're like me, you take pride in your fantasy team name. But for this one, you lose that right. There are two ways to do this. The first is that the rest of the league reaches a consensus for loser's team name and that's what he has to stick with. The second is a new league-mate getting control of the team name every week of the following season. Either stinks for the last-place finisher, which is kind of the point.

The no devices, no entertainment flight
Another punishment that could vary on commitment level. At its core, though, the penance to be paid is a flight where the loser isn't allowed any sort of entertainment. No phone, no book, no seatback screen — just a person and the upright tray table in front of them. And the one caveat I would suggest: The flight has to be longer than two hours. We aren't here for a puddle jumper in this scenario.
Dating a stuffed animal
There are certainly other things that you could bring on what's actually a solo date, but the thought of getting a "table for two" while carrying a teddy bear, then placing said teddy bear in the opposite seat from you while you go about a full dinner is a special kind of punishment.
Attend a game in a rival jersey
Maybe the best part about this is that it can be independent of fandom, but the embarrassment remains. For instance, here's a guy going to a Yankees game in a Jose Altuve jersey. No idea if he's a Yankees or Astros fan, but he certainly felt punished in the Bronx.

Working at the car wash
Honestly, this gets to the root of a punishment. In addition to any prize money, the winner of the league gets their car washed by the loser. Embarrassing outfit is optional, but certainly more hilarious.
Texting an ex
Obviously, you want to be careful here. We're not trying to ruin marriages or relationships. But if all parties are on board, the league collectively deciding on a text that the last-place finisher must send to an ex is objectively funny.
Dinner or drinks
We'll have some variation of this later that's a bit more daunting, but in the simplest terms, it doesn't get more basic (but still effective!) than the loser having to take the league out to a meal or even just for drinks on their dime.

At-home NFL Combine
For all past-their-prime or never-was athletes out there, this can be great. The loser has to run the 40-yard dash, do the shuttle drills, hit the bench press and do all of the workouts at the NFL Combine, likely film them and then post them to some social media platform.
Charitable donation
Some people like to use their fantasy football punishment for good. Forcing the loser to donate to charity as a result of the league is a great way to do that, and you can obviously agree to a charity that would make sense and, hopefully, help out a good cause.
A loser's trophy
Displayed proudly, preferably on your at-home Zoom background or at the office. It's simple, it's easy, and it'll always play as a fantasy punishment.
Bad haircut
Different avenues you can go here, specifically whether or not a professional or the league mates are the one providing the haircut. And while this might seem less than tame, hair will (most often) grow back, and the humiliation can be covered by a hat in most cases. Trust me, it could be worse.
'Get ready with me'
Especially with the rise of social media, I love the idea of the league's loser having to create a TikTok account and have to post as an "influencer" with boxes they have to check. That can be types of video, like "Get ready with me" or "Here's what's in my bag", it could be follower or like counts or other things.
Random food challenges
I'm looping these all into one. Whether you're talking about the "One Chip Challenge", going through the Hot Ones sauces on chicken wings, shotgunning a can of chicken noodle soup or even eating something disgusting, food challenges are always a win.

Caddy duty
This won't apply to a league where the players in it don't play golf. But if they do, the loser having to caddy a round for either the winner or multiple people in the league is fantastic. Underrated aspect: Taking the brunt of the blame for a bad club selection or bad yardage in addition to the embarrassment overall.
Sign up for a service or chain that you don't want
League mates will have to agree on the right thing for the loser to have to sign up for, but there's some psychological power here. The last-place finisher is going to have to suffer through endless political email chains or a pet product subscription (especially funny if they don't own a pet) for a determined amount of time in relative silence. They'll reach a breaking point at some juncture.
'The Diary of a Polarizing Figure' sing-a-long
Pat McAfee, for some reason, dropped a full album this offseason. Wouldn't you love to hear your league's loser sing along with every bit of that and record it? What about uploading it to social media as well? I thought so.
Moderate fantasy football punishments

Attend a youth or high school sporting event as a heckler
This is a great way to get an entire crowd of parents to think that the loser of your fantasy football league is just a genuinely bad person. In actuality, pulling this off really isn't all that difficult. However, the level of commitment and embarrassment involved is exceptionally high.
Open-mic night
Unless you play fantasy football with a professional slam poet, most of the league is not prepared to step up to the microphone in front of a crowd. You can decide what they're doing at the open mic, but it most definitely gets most people well outside of their comfort zone.
Drive-thru on repeat
This is a spin on buying the league dinner, but one that is infinitely more annoying for the loser than just having to pay. The last-place finisher must go to a fast-food drive-thru and order for the entire league. The catch: They have to place each order individually, drive around the restaurant, and then order the next one.

Trick-or-treat, non-October division
The one rule is that this can't be done within a month's time around Halloween. Otherwise, what's the point? But the loser has to dress up in a costume and go door-to-door trick-or-treating. They can't stop until they reach a certain number of pieces of candy in their bucket or bag that they're carrying.
This is amazing. Fantasy football punishment ... has to trick or treat until he gets 10 pieces of candy. #FantasyLife pic.twitter.com/7UVYetHJiI

Puzzle in a dark room
Let the league decide how difficult of a puzzle to use for this, but one of my favorite fantasy football punishments I've seen was the loser being locked in a dark room or closet with a puzzle and a headlamp. They aren't allowed to leave the room (beyond basic human rights like eating and using the restroom) until the puzzle is completed.
Build-a-Fantasy-Football-Loser
We all might be a little too old to play dress-up these days, but let's turn back the clock. Whoever finishes last in the league's outfit for a specific outing (dinner, shopping, a game, etc.) will be chosen by the rest of the league. Make the gym bro in your group wear a dress. Hit up Goodwill for a wildly inappropriate t-shirt. The possibilities are numerous with this one.
Bathroom duty
No one likes cleaning a restroom or bathroom, even at your own home. But I suspect that you especially won't like it if you're having to clean up a public toilet. That's the goal here, to make it as painful and humiliating as possible. You have to go to a public establishment with full cleaning supplies and clean a restroom. Warning: You might get kicked out of the place for doing so, which adds to the allure of this as a punishment.

Run a 5K in a costume or suit
This one's pretty self-explanatory. The loser has to sign up for a 5K, and then run the 3.1 miles either wearing a full suit or in a full costume. Bonus points for the league if the other mates show up along the race course and poke some fun.
Chore rotation
Haven't you wanted to have the worst fantasy player you know rake your leaves? Or do your dishes? Here's your chance! The last-place finisher has to perform a household chore of each of their leaguemates' choosing. Get to scrubbin'!
Wax appointment
This obviously works best for a league that is full of men and who don't regularly endure the pain of having body hair waxed. Beyond that, you get the picture, and it will certainly be painful for the loser to have to go through this.
Simon Says
Picture this: You're out at the bar with your friends and leaguemates. The league's loser is there, the league's winner is there. The winner is playing Simon Says with the loser. You can decide on the venue for this and what happens if the league winner doesn't say "Simon Says" and the loser performs the task anyway. But there's a lot of potential here.

Happy AI Valentine's Day
This is a three-pronged punishment to take. It starts with the loser creating an AI companion. They then must wish the AI significant other a Happy Valentine's Day, a Happy Anniversary, and a Happy Birthday on social media. If you want to make this extra wild, if that person has a living, breathing significant other, they aren't allowed to tell them about these posts in advance.
Paintball target practice
I'm not afraid to admit I was dumb enough to do this once without it being a fantasy punishment. But the loser has to go stand out in an open area. Every other player in the league then gets to take five shots at the loser with a paintball gun. Simple? Yes. Painful? Also yes.
Book reports
Obviously, this isn't that extreme outside of the dedicated time that's needed here. The loser must read a predetermined list of books and deliver a book report on each of them to the league. I would recommend making these reports be presented via video or in-person for an extra bit of humiliation.
The JCPenney-style photoshoot
On the bright side for the loser, they might be able to swing a Christmas card out of one of these pictures.

Audition for a play
Even us former high-school theater kids probably aren't all that prepared for the spotlight. Some others just hate performing in front of people in general. Let's take all of those anxieties and put them together. Find a local theater production and the loser has to go and audition. It would be even better if they were forced to audition for the lead role.
Extreme fantasy football punishments

Get a tattoo of the winner or league's choosing
This is a tried and true punishment, but it's also always going to be extreme given the permanence of it. I will say, the best way to execute this punishment is to agree upon a tattoo that has nothing to do with fantasy football. Imagine having to explain that you have a tattoo of Elon Musk's face because you suck at fantasy.
Pandhandling
A popular trend in recent years, but one that's still loads of fun. The loser has to either play an instrument or show off a talent on the sidewalk or street in a well-trafficked area with a tip jar or hat on the ground. They aren't allowed to stop their performance until they reach a certain dollar amount in tips.

Absurd recreations
This guy having to dress up and eat everything that the Very Hungry Caterpillar did is going to live in my head for a while. But anything like this — might I suggest Green Eggs & Ham — is a diaboical level of punishment that is both taxing and embarrassing.

The immediate return flight
If you think you're sending the loser on a trip, think again. Yes, they will pay for and board a flight to a destination. But they aren't going to get to enjoy that destination. The goal here is to send the last-place finisher to another airport, preferably a good distance away, only for them to board the return flight as soon as possible.

Enter a bodybuilding competition
Even the fantasy football players who frequent the gym likely aren't bodybuilding competition ready. They also almost certainly aren't ready to have spray tan caked on by the pounds. But if that's not what you want, then just simply don't lose in fantasy football and you'll be fine.

'Run a marathon' in a small area
Physical and mental pain? That's what we're talking about. You might not be in high school like the kids below to be able to do this in a lunch hall, but there's certainly somewhere where you could ultimately make this happen. And if you're worried about the full marathon, even the 13.1 miles of a half marathon is still pretty grueling.
This fantasy football punishment is diabolical. 😭

Rent a billboard proclaiming the loss
We're talking about some pretty serious price point here, but having to buy a billboard, the location of which can be chosen either by the winner or the league collectively, that has your picture and something to indicate that you took a big, fat L in fantasy football is about as public of a shaming as you're going to find.
Play golf with no ball
A new entry to the list, but one loser from last season had to join a random foursome on the golf course and play a full round — only he could never actually put a ball into play, nor could he explain what he was doing. Absolutely genius stuff.
This guy's fantasy punishment was to play golf without a ball with strangers 😭

Make a pinup calendar and try to sell them
It's one thing to have to do a photoshoot. It's another level of embarrassment entirely to then make a calendar of these shots. And it's well beyond that to then have to take this calendar to somewhere like your local grocery store and try to sell these calendars like the worst Girl Scout possible. You can make it even worse if the rule is the loser can't stop until they've sold one.
Reality TV audition videos
While I would love to try my hand at Survivor, making the audition video would absolutely be the most cringe part. For this punishment, the loser has to make an audition video for at least five reality TV shows of their choosing (or the league's choosing) and then share them with the entire league. Whether or not they actually want to send them to the shows are up to the loser — or maybe up to the commissioner.
