Gus Malzahn: Jeremy Johnson will have a role in Auburn offense
By Jack Crosby
Last summer at this time, before Nick Marshall took the Auburn Tigers on the ride of their lives, all the way to the national championship game, there were a lot of folks that believed Jeremy Johnson was more suited for the job.

As we know, Malzahn ended up making the right decision, and with potential punishment headed Marshall’s way for his recent citation for marijuana, there’s a chance that Johnson will see the field under center.
However, if that is the case and Marshall returns, that doesn’t mean that Malzahn will waste Johnson’s talents on the bench. He will indeed have a role in some capacity on the field.
“Even before [Marshall’s arrest on June 11], at the end of spring practice, [offensive coordinator Rhett] Lashlee and I made a commitment that Jeremy was going to have a role,” Malzahn said. “He’s an NFL quarterback, no doubt.”
With the way Malzahn runs his offensive system, this is not all that far-fetched. He’s all about weapons, and Johnson has the tools still to be one of the deadliest players on the field at any given time.
When you have a player on your team that could probably start for any other team in the country like Malzahn has with Johnson, you get him on the field. And Malzahn even admitted that Johnson would start anywhere else in the nation.
“He’s got a lot of talent and he’s a good one,” Malzahn said. “He could start for a lot of people.”
