Brian Hoyer, not Johnny Manziel, will start first preseason game for Cleveland Browns
By Dan Zinski
The depth chart don’t lie. The Cleveland Browns listed Brian Hoyer as the #1 quarterback on their first depth chart of the preseason, and as promised, Hoyer will be the starting QB when Cleveland takes the field against Detroit for their opening preseason game.

Johnny Manziel is listed #2 on the Browns depth chart at quarterback and he will be the backup.
The Browns sort of teased everyone with the possibility that Manziel might start over Hoyer in the opener, but ultimately Mike Pettine decided to stick with the chart and give Hoyer the nod.
Question: Why would you dangle the possibility of Manziel starting unless you were looking for media attention? I thought the Browns hated all the media attention. What gives, Browns?
Even with Manziel relegated to #2 QB duties in this game, there will still be plenty of people tuning in. Preseason games are not known for their intrigue but this one is the exception. Everyone will be curious to see what Johnny Manziel looks like as a pro.
Unless Mike Pettine has a little perverse streak we don’t know about, we should see Manziel fairly early on in the contest. Hoyer likely won’t get more than one series and then it will be Johnny Football time.
You know Johnny will have something special ready for the Lions. Johnny is a true showman. He never disappoints.
