Move over Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson and Bill Russell. Your reign as the ‘greatest’ is slowly coming to an end, at least according to the NBA’s current field of superstars.

More from Kevin Durant

You may recall last year LeBron James called Allen Iverson the greatest NBA player ever and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder is following suit.

Kevin Durant, posting a photo of he and Allen Iverson on his Instagram suggested that A.I. is ‘pound for pound’ the greatest to ever play.

This was the caption that went along with the photo:

"Chuck too real. He changed the way we play ball. He changed the culture of ball. He is pound for pound the best. He paved the way. I can go on and on. But he’s a legend and I’m just walking the path he created."

As strange as it might be for many of us to say (myself included), many of today’s superstars (like Kevin Durant) didn’t get to see Michael Jordan play a professional game. For those that did, they likely witnessed Jordan towards the end of his career and are far more familiar with Allen Iverson who was at his pinnacle while Jordan rode into the sunset with the Washington Wizards.

It seems every generation has a player that they attach themselves to and the current core group of players seem to feel as if Allen Iverson is that player for them.

Given that, it’s difficult to name a single player as the greatest of all time and much easier to group a collection into a single mass of elite status.
