The University of Michigan and University of Texas have officially agreed on a home-and-home college football football series to take place in the mid-2020’s. The series will play at Michigan in 2024 and Texas in 2027 in one of the most anticipated match-ups of college football’s most recognizable teams.

Michigan is the all-time wins leader in college football history with 912 and Texas is third with 876.

The Wolverines will host the Longhorns at Michigan Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024. The return trip by Michigan to Austin will take place on Sept. 4, 2027.

“A match-up of this magnitude doesn’t come along all that often, and when it does it’s special for both programs and the great fans that support each institution,” Michigan football coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. “This also is a special series for all fans of college football, and I anticipate great games just like the first contest played between the two programs.”

The only previous match-up between Michigan and Texas happened in the 2005 Rose Bowl game. The back-and-forth affair ended with a 37-yard field from the Longhorns as time expired to secure a 38-37 victory over the Wolverines. Texas was led by prolific quarterback Vince Young in the win and it was Michigan receiver Braylon Edwards’ final game in a Michigan uniform.

Texas isn’t Michigan’s first home-and-home series that’s been crafted by athletic director Dave Brandon in recent years, who has secured future home-and-home series with some of the nation’s top programs for a jam packed decade: Arkansas (2018-19), Washington (2020-21), Virginia Tech (2020-21), UCLA (2022-23), Oklahoma (2025-26) and now Texas.

Texas has future home-and-home series’ lined up with USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame and now Michigan.

The two teams have struggled as of late. Michigan currently has a 2-1 record after a blowout loss to Notre Dame and Texas is 1-2 after losses to BYU and UCLA.
