The New York Yankees have won three straight games. They have a lengthy home stand in front of them as they hope to put together a winning streak that could possibly result in a miraculous postseason berth in Derek Jeter‘s final season. With solid play lately and a goosebumps-worthy moment from Jeter this week, those hopes seemed like they might be gaining just a little bit of steam in recent days.

Any chances of a miracle run by the Yankees might have taken a significant hit on Friday night, however, with some bad injury news. Stud outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, one of the team’s hottest hitters lately, exited the team’s win over the Toronto Blue Jays with a hamstring injury.

Manager Joe Girardi readily admitted after the game that this injury might end Ellsbury’s season. From the New York Post:

"“I think that’s a distinct possibility,” said Girardi, as the team waited on the results of an MRI exam. “Anytime a guy comes out and grabs his hamstring, you’re always concerned. … [Jacoby] swung the bat extremely well tonight. He’s been a huge part of our offense. It’s not what you want, but we’ll have to deal with it. It’s all we can do.”"

Ellsbury had just been starting to heat up for the Yankees, including a home run and a double in this game. Unfortunately it sounds like those contributions might have come in his last game of the 2014 season, pending unexpected good news on this injury.
