When the Edmonton Oilers lost, Craig MacTavish was blown away… and then the internet got carried away

More from Edmonton Oilers

In GM Craig MacTavish’s defense, it really looked like the Edmonton Oilers were finally going to bring home their first win in almost a month — and against the Winnipeg Jets, who are actually having a pretty great season.

It seems that the Jets had no interest in relinquishing the newfound league-wide respect they’ve earned this season, though, and they tied up the game with less than three minutes in regulation. They then followed up with a goal seventeen seconds into the overtime period, effectively crushing any hopes and dreams the Oilers had in Edmonton’s eleventh consecutive loss.

In much the same way that some photographers choose to capture the groom when their bride first begins her walk down the aisle, one of the game cameras chose to capture MacTavish’s face when Jets center Mathieu Perreault scored the OT game winner… and boy, was it ever worth it.

Hockey Twitter did what Hockey Twitter does best, and ran away with the picture. Between that and the fact that #HereComeTheOilers actually started trending, it goes without saying that Edmonton’s loss didn’t go undocumented.

And… scene.
