Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is scared to shave because of razor burn.

Andrew Luck has taken the next step in his career this season, and has officially worked his way into the “elite” group of NFL quarterbacks. He is leading the Indianapolis Colts each and every week, and has improved them into the number one ranked aerial attack in the league.

One of the characteristics of Luck that has gained a ton of interest throughout the past couple of seasons, is the neck beard that he grows. He doesn’t shave during the season, and he talked about why that is.

There are quite a few players with facial hair around the NFL, but not many with the type of beard that Luck rocks each and every season. He talked with the media about why he grows it out, and the fact that his girlfriend and mother are not huge fans of the look.

“I know it’s a bad look. My girlfriend tells me every day. My mom tells me,” Luck said on a conference call to Denver reporters ahead of Sunday afternoon’s game. “I realize it’s a bad look. But I’m not going for any specific look.”

So why does Luck continue to grow the beard despite knowing that it’s not a great look and both his mother and girlfriend not liking it?

“To be honest, I don’t like shaving during the season. Razor burn. If you grow it this long, you might as well keep it.”

Luck ended up throwing for 4,761 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions this past season. He still wants to cut down on the turnover issues, but the rest of his game has evolved into one of the most dangerous in the game.

At just 25 years of age, the young star quarterback has plenty of time and room to grow. The Colts were fortunate enough to transition immediately from Peyton Manning to Luck, and they are seeing him become more and more like Manning in different ways. Luck actually broke Manning’s record for single-season passing yards this season.

All of that being said, Luck’s explanation for the beard makes sense. Indianapolis is not favored to head into Denver and come out with a win on Sunday afternoon, but it will be a good game. Luck is the only reason that the Colts have gotten this far, and they are going to need a monster performance out of him in order to come away with a win.
