Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll explains the baffling decision to throw on the goal line in the Super Bowl.

Thanks to a miraculous catch from Jermaine Kearse, the Seattle Seahawks had the ball on the goal line in the final minute of the Super Bowl with a chance to win the game. They inexplicably called a short slant pass and Russell Wilson ended up throwing an interception to end the game and hand the win to the New England Patriots.

The call was rather baffling given the fact that the Seahawks had a bruising running back in Marshawn Lynch who is known for steamrolling defenders.

After the game, Carroll tried to explain the call and the reasoning behind the decision, because no one else could understand it.

“Really what happened, it was frankly really clear, we went to three receivers and they sent in their goal line people,” Carroll said. “We had plenty of downs and a time out and didn’t want to run against their goal line people right there.”

I don’t know if anyone still understands the decision behind the play call. Lynch had a short run for a touchdown earlier in the game so why were they intimidated by the Patriots’ goal line package.
