Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw has resorted to reading books on how to connect with his young players, according to TNT’s Rachel Nichols. Shaw’s plan doesn’t appear to be working.

The Denver Nuggets are a mess.

They find themselves just 20-33 and losers in 13 of their last 15 games. Their season is over for all intents and purposes and it seems the team is ready to blow up their roster, as they’ve already traded Timofey Mozgov and are reportedly listening to offers for Aaron Afflalo.

However, Nuggets coach Brian Shaw, who figures to be on the hot seat, is not ready to throw in the towel on this season.

The latest proof: Shaw is now reading books in order to help him communicate better with his younger players, as revealed by TNT’s Rachel Nichols during the broadcast of the Nuggets’ game versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

Nichols reported:

"Head coach Brian Shaw has acknowledged he’s had some trouble communicating with his players, and it’s gotten so bad that he told us he started reading some books on how to relate to millennials or Generation Y players, as he put it. Shaw said he’s been frustrated that these players seem to need to need more praise than in his day, that they’re easily distracted. He even tried taking their cell phones away from them an hour before game time, putting them in a box so they’ll concentrate on the film."

It’s hard to fault Shaw for trying whatever he can. He’s going to have to better get through to his players if he wants the Nuggets to show improvement in the second half of this season and save his job. However, it’s hard to imagine Shaw’s methods working.

Still, it’s better than him rapping a scouting report to his players, which the Boston Herald reported he recently did. No, we’re not joking.

Shaw’s strange methods truly reflect what a bad situation the Nuggets are in right now. Shaw and his players aren’t meshing and there’s little reason to believe that will change.

Shaw’s days as the Nuggets coach seem to be numbered.
